includes high tech research firms, automotive suppliers, cherry and wine industries and some of the finest medical facilities
available in Michigan. Traverse City is also the economic and retail center for northwest Michigan. A thriving downtown is
complimented by a dozen or more neighborhood shopping centers and two enclosed malls.
Cultural interests and activities play an important part in the lives of most residents. The Interlochen Center for the Arts offers
both year around music and drama as well as its famed Summer Music Camp, with outdoor concerts featuring some of
America's top concert artists. Traverse city boasts its own symphony as well, and a restored opera house and civic theater.
Traverse City is also home to Northwestern Michigan College, the first community college in Michigan with a fully accredited
Adult Education program as well as the thriving Great Lakes Maritime Academy. Most however, would agree the biggest
attraction is the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay. The East and West arms of Grand Traverse Bay are separated by a 20-mile
long peninsula with the largest concentration of red tart cherry orchards in the world.Traverse City is the county seat of Grand
