GREAT LAKES AVIATION TO ADD FLIGHTS AT
SpELLSTON, MICHIGAN FOR THE DURATION OF THE NORTHWEST AIRLINES
STRIKE.
Spencer, Iowa -- September 10, 1998 -- Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. (NASDAQ:GLUX) announced today the temporary addition flights at Pellston, Michigan.
Great Lakes Aviation normally reduces its United Express flights between Pellston, Michigan and Chicago O'Hare during the off-peak months of September through May of each year. As previously announced, Great Lakes had planned to discontinue all service at Pellston after October 7, 1998 in response to higher levels of Northwest Airlink service provided by Mesaba Airlines to both Detroit Metro and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
In view of the temporary curtailment of Northwest Airlines and Northwest Airlink flights which would leave Pellston with a single round trip flight daily, Great Lakes will add a second United Express round trip to Chicago on weekdays and Sundays beginning September 15th. The added flights are planned to operate through September 30 only. Should the Northwest Airlink service to Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul be delayed beyond that date, United Express flights to Chicago will be extended for additional periods of time as needed.
These added flights will appear in United's Apollo reservations system on Tuesday, September 15th and in other reservations systems on Saturday, September 19th. Passengers may call United Airlines for reservations and information at 1-800-241-6522.
For the duration of the current Northwest Airlines curtailment of service, passengers originally ticketed for travel on Northwest Airlines or Northwest Airlink flights may be accommodated on any United Express flight under the terms of the agreement between United Airlines and Northwest Airlines covering the acceptance of Northwest Airlines tickets.
