GREAT LAKES AVIATION TO CONTINUE FLIGHTS AT
SAULT STE. MARIE AND ALPENA, MICHIGAN FOR THE DURATION OF THE
NORTHWEST AIRLINES STRIKE.
Spencer, Iowa -- September 4, 1998 -- Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. (NASDAQ:GLUX) announced today the continuation of service at Sault Ste. Marie and Alpena, Michigan.
Great Lakes Aviation had planned to discontinue United Express service from both cities to Chicago-O'Hare International Airport on September 9th when Mesaba Airlines had planned to begin Northwest Airlink service from both locations to Detroit Metro Airport.
In view of the temporary curtailment of Northwest Airlines and Northwest Airlink flights which would leave Saulte Ste. Marie and Alpena with no scheduled service by any carrier, Great Lakes will add three United Express round trip flights to Chicago on weekdays and two round trip flights on both Saturdays and Sundays beginning September 9th. The added flights are planeed to operate through September 30 only. should the Northwest Airlink service to Detroit be delayed beyond that date, United Express flights to Chicago will be extended for additional periods of time as needed.
These added flights will appear in United's Apollo reservations system on Tuesday, September 8th and in other reservations systems on Saturday, September 12th. Passengers may call United Airlines for reservations and information at 1-800-241-6522.
For the duration of the current Northwest Airlines curtailment of service, passengers originally ticketed for travel on Northwest Airlines or Northwest Airlink flights may be accommodated on any United Express flight under the terms of the agreement between United Airlines and Northwest Airlines covering the acceptance of Northwest Airlines tickets.
