Great Lakes Aviation Earns the FAA Certificate of Excellence 'Diamond Award'

CHEYENNE, Wyo., April 3 Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd (Nasdaq: GLUX - news) today announced that on March 14, 2002, it was awarded the Federal Aviation Administration's Certificate of Excellence ``Diamond Award''. The Certificate of Excellence was presented for 100 percent participation of Great Lakes Aviation's aviation maintenance technicians (AMT's) in FAA approved training programs.

The FAA Certificate of Excellence recognizes aviation employers whose technicians participate in FAA approved maintenance, safety and professional training. The ``Diamond Award'' is given to those employers who achieve at least 25 percent participation of eligible aviation maintenance technicians. Great Lakes Aviation had 100 percent participation of all eligible AMT's in its system of six maintenance bases located throughout the Rocky Mountain and Midwest regions.

``This award demonstrates our commitment to safety and excellence through training,'' said Doug Voss, Great Lakes Aviation's President and Chief Executive Officer.

As of March 1, 2002, Great Lakes Aviation was providing scheduled service at 48 airports in 15 states with a fleet of Raytheon/Beech 1900D regional airliners. A total of 216 weekday flights are scheduled at the company's four hubs with 174 flights at Denver International Airport, 24 flights at Chicago-O'Hare International Airport, 14 flights at Minneapolis/St. Paul, and four flights at Phoenix. All scheduled flights are operated under the Great Lakes Airlines marketing identity in conjunction with code-share agreements with United Airlines and Frontier Airlines.
