GREAT LAKES AVIATION TO ADD FLIGHTS IN ITS DENVER UNITED EXPRESS MARKETS EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 6, 2000
 

Spencer, Iowa � August 1, 2000� Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. (NASDAQ:GLUX) today announced that it will add flights in several United Express markets at Denver International Airport beginning September 6, 2000.  The total amount of United Express flying in Denver operated by Great Lakes Aviation will remain at about the current levels as these additional flights will be offset by seasonal reductions in other markets.

A 12th weekday round trip will be added between Denver and Santa Fe, New Mexico.  On Saturdays 11 round trips will be scheduled while on Sundays a total of 13 round trips will be offered.  Since the expanded schedule of 11 weekday round trips was added in April, traffic growth has exceeded expectations.  With the addition of the 12th weekday round trip, there will be United Express flights connecting to and from every connecting bank of flights operated by United Airlines at Denver.

Great Lakes will add a fourth flight between Denver and Amarillo, Texas bringing the total United Express weekday schedule to six round trips including two flights operated by Air Wisconsin.

In the Cheyenne-Denver market, a ninth round trip will be added on weekdays.  Weekend schedules will feature six flights on Saturdays and seven flights on Sundays.  Great Lakes recently moved its B1900 heavy maintenance operation to Cheyenne and the company's corporate headquarters is being relocated from Spencer, Iowa to a new facility under construction at the Cheyenne Airport.  The move is expected to be completed by October.

Great Lakes will improve its United Express schedules between Denver and a number of Nebraska communities with a fourth round trip added to North Platte and a fifth flight added to Grand Island.  Two of the Grand Island flights will be upgraded to operate non stop.

As of August 1, 2000, scheduled service was being provided at 61 airports in fourteen states with a fleet of eight Embraer EMB-120 Brasilias and 40 Raytheon/Beech 1900D regional airliners. A total of 338 weekday flights are scheduled at three hubs with 98 flights at Chicago-O'Hare International Airport, 228 at Denver and 12 at Minneapolis-St. Paul.
