GREAT LAKES AVIATION TO UPGRADE UNITED EXPRESS SERVICE AT SCOTTSBLUFF, NEBRASKA BEGINNING JUNE 1.

Spencer, Iowa -- April 23, 1998 -- Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. (NASDAQ:GLUX) today announced that beginning June 1, 1998, all United Express flights between Scottsbulff, Nebraska and Denver International Airport will be scheduled to operate non-stop in both directions.

Great Lakes' initial schedule of four round trips includes one round trip that makes an enroute stop in Laramie, Wyoming. The fourth round trip flight added on April 23rd provides travelers with a new late afternoon departure from Denver and an early evening return to Denver.

The expanded service will succeed flights operated by Mesa Airlines. Initial schedules will closely mirror the flights currently scheduled at these cities in order to minimize any disruption of travel plans already in place. United Express flights to be operated by Great Lakes Aviation will be scheduled in 19-seat Beech 1900D regional airliners.

"We are pleased to be able to offer travelers to and from the Scottsbluff/Gerin area a continuation of United Express service", said Doug Voss, Great Lakes' president and chief executive officer. "United Express flights to Denver are timed to allow excellent connections to and from the global network of flights operated by United Airlines and United Express which, together, offer over 400 daily departures from Denver".
